Mercedes-Benz Creates First of its Kind Cruise Control

Mercedes-Benz Cruise ControlMercedes-Benz has developed a new feature that very well may save gas. This new system, Predictive Powertrain Control, has a new cruise control system that will employ GPS technology to scan the road’s topography. This will enable the car to shift its transmission into optimum gears. The overall result will be saved gas by about 3%.

This cruise control system is the first of its kind and Mercedes-Benz has already put it into effect with their Actros big-rig truck.  This technology will enable fleet operators to cut back on fuel costs which are always an issue.

Mercedes-Benz truly is a leading automobile company in technology and very well is on the way to putting the cruise control system over the top. More information to come on whether or not this system will be applied to passenger cars.

Free Mercedes-Benz With Purchase of 5-year, $1M CD

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK350Florida’s C1 Bank has partnered with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pewter Partners, and Crown Eurocars to put forth an unprecedented offer; at least, as far as banks are concerned.

Customers who choose to invest in C1 Bank with a 5-year, $1M certificate of deposit (CD) will be given the opportunity to choose between four different Mercedes-Benz models as pre-paid interest on the CD. While investors will forfeit the 1.2% APY typically associated with the CD, a new Mercedes offers the benefit of an immediate return on the investment.

The four models include the 2012 SLK350 Roadster, the 2012 E350 Sedan, the 2012 ML350 SUV, and the E350 Convertible. All of these vehicles, valued around the $60,000 associated with the CD’s total APY ($12K annually for 5 years), will come with all tags, title, licenses, and taxes paid, so investors will also be spared the headache of taking care of all of the legal work associated with buying a new vehicle.

How to Choose the Best Convertible

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK350There are so many different convertibles out there now, from the Nissan Murano Cabriolet to a small Porsche Boxster, it can be hard to figure out exactly which model is right for you. Let Tri-Star Imports help you out with these 3 tips for selecting the best convertible

Type

Today convertibles come in a wide range of bodystyles and designs. You have the SUV turned convertible in the Nissan Murano Cabriolet to the increasingly more common four seat convertible like the Ford Mustang and Toyota Solara to the fun two seat roadsters like the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and Porsche Boxster. It all starts with how many people you need to move with this car, and how comfortable you want them to be. Is this going to be something the whole family will need to use year round or will it be your personal summer vehicle for cruising on those warm Sunday afternoons?

Livablity

Depending on where you live convertibles have varying self lives. If you live in San Diego or Miami you can drive a convertible nearly every day, but here in St. Louis, the cold winters and cool falls and springs make convertibles less practical as every day drivers. New technologies though are helping to extend the drive time of convertibles no matter where you live. Heated and cooled front seats, which are found in nearly every luxury car, can help ease the crisp temperatures of late Fall and early Spring. Add in new Mercedes-Benz technology like AIRSCARF, which blows warm air down the back of your neck, and you can easily drop the top for a few weeks beyond every other driver.

Roof

A few years ago, every convertible was sold with the standard cloth top, now we have convertibles widely available that feature hard tops. For buyers in snowy climates, who need to use their convertible for a daily driver, a hardtop might be the way to go, for others the soft top might be a more economical choice. This one really comes down to preference.

Once you have figured out how you will use your new convertible, you can decide what the best model is for you. Luxury models like the Mercedes-Benz SLK350 feature new technologies and luxury features that not only make the car fun to drive, but also extend the usability of the drop top and make it more flexible for buyers who need something that can be a daily driver.

Mercedes-Benz Replaces Outgoing Maybach with Becker JetVan

Becker JetVanWhat do you get when you cross the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with a G6? No, not a flying van, but pretty close. You get the all new Beckner JetVan Sprinter.

After announcing late last year that they would be dropping the ultra-luxe Maybach line, the Becker JetVan has stepped up to fill the void. The van uses the popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter model, the very large van that can be customized to fit any need. The Sprinter started out mostly being used as transportation for large families, small group gathers, business delivers, and other similar events, but now is being transformed into an over-the-top luxury transport for the 0.01%.

The van fills the “need” for buyers who have distances to travel, that is too short for their normal private plane, and too long for them to drive. Complete with a 1.3 kilowatt audio system, 40-inch LCD tv, wireless internet, and high-end private jet like seating. All of the amenities on board are controlled by the passenger through one of the two six-inch control screens.

Mercedes-Benz Cuts R-Class from the US Market

2012 Mercedes-Benz R350The R-Class is a very nice vehicle, as all Mercedes-Benz models are. Coming with a standard V6 engine, high-end leather interiors and all-wheel drive the R-Class should have competed nicely in the SUV and Minivan market. For some reason, in the ultra-competitive US market the R-Class just hasn’t been selling up to expectations. Its not that Americans didn’t like the car, the offering just came with too steep of a price tag.

Starting at just over $52,000, the R350 4Matic and the R350 BlueTec diesel with a starting MSRP of just over $53,000, the R-Class only managed to wrangle about 300 buyers. Mercedes-Benz spokesman Christian Bokich said the model is not working in the marketing, “to the extent that we can no longer make the business case for continuing to offer the R-Class.”

There was a bit of good news behind all of this though. Mercedes-Benz did confirm that they will continue to manufacture the R-Class in their Tuscaloosa plant until 2015 to meet foreign demand for the model. Buyers looking for an alternative to the R-Class should consider downsizing to the GLK-Class if fuel efficiency is a consideration or looking at the M-Class for more interior space.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Goes Upside Down

Everyone has probably heard rumors that certain cars are so powerful and created so much down force that they could drive on the roof of a tunnel. Well, in this case, the SLS AMG really does have that kind of power. Take a look as they put together the necessary pieces to make the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG drive upside down in a tunnel in Germany. While you’re enjoying the beauty of the car and the fun of driving upside down, take a minute to appreciate the roar of the SLS AMG engine.

Invisible Mercedes-Benz B-Class

Think about all the spy movies you have seen in your life. Now think about all the cool spy technology that you wish you could have. One of the coolest things that you could ever have is an invisible car.

Mercedes-Benz has done just that. To promote the new B-Class fuel-cell vehicle, Mercedes-Benz has put an invisibility cloak to the test. The German luxury car company employeed dozens of technicians and spent nearly $263,000 on flexible LED mats to cover one side of the car. Using a camera on the opposite side of the vehicle, the LED panels were able to recreate the surrounding scenry, virtually making the car invisible from one site.

The whole point of this exercise was for Mercedes-Benz to show how the F-Cell hydrogen powered car would be invisible to the environment, producing only water vapor and heat emissions.
